Good for Kids serves a record number of youth in 2008 with 11 Coaching Scholarships and 50 kids in the Camp Program.
Camp and Scholarship Program
We had another fun summer getting to know the approximately 50 youth who participated in our camp program. About half of these spectacular students received camp scholarships that enable them to enjoy the natural surroundings at Camp Mendocino.
Coaching Scholarship Program
Good for Kids is thrilled to introduce the 2008 coaching recipients!
These amazing young men and women exhibit tremendous passion for their art or sport and we could not be happier to support their development.

Advisory Services
The majority of our Scholarship Recipients continue to develop skills in their scholarship activities after graduation. Some pursue their passion with Good for Kids help and some through their own commitment to the activity. Here are some highlights:

Andrew remains on a soccer team in Marin, marking his first time playing with an organized league.
Jenny Li- Art Scholarship 2007
Jenny maintains a three-time-a-week schedule with Art coach, William Mayfield. She recently exhibited her art at San Francisco's De Young Museum as part of the 2008 Youth Arts Festival.

As a student at School of The Arts, Susy is refining her art skills on a daily basis. She will soon complete her 2nd commissioned work.
How far would you go to support Good for Kids? In July, Team GFK ran 150 Miles over 7 days in the largest desert region in Asia.
Hats off to Team Good for Kids! Lia Farley, Piera Damonte, and Nicholas Wickes completed the Gobi March, which covers 150 Miles of China's Gobi Desert in 7 days in July. The team carried all of their equipment except water and a tent. And yes, you guessed it, the foam mascots hitched a ride, with Pierre the Painter leading the pack.
Their efforts raised nearly $30,000, all of which go to GFK programs and services. Special kudos to Lia Farley, who finished 1st for the women, by 2 1/2 hours, and 7th over-all.
Stay tuned for Team Good for Kids' next race in Namibia's Namib desert and Fish River Canyon in May 2009. Please donate to support the team and Good for Kids scholarships and programs. Click here to donate securely online or send your check to:

Thanks to all of our donors, coaches, partners and families for making it possible for GFK to fulfill our mission. Without you, we could not help 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from low-income backgrounds to realize their artistic and athletic potential.
Good for Kids introduces its Healthy Communities program.
As part of Good for Kids' Advisory Services, each scholarship recipient is asked to select one or more of the following ways to give back to GFK and their community during and after their Coaching Scholarship. The components of Good for Kids' Healthy Communities program include:
a. Assist the Good for Kids Program Manager in planning and coordinating a Good for Kids Mid-Scholarship Exhibition and Graduation Celebration.
b. Act as a GFK Ambassador at your local Boys & Girls Club or after school program and Middle/High School.
c. Mentor a younger Good for Kids Scholarship recipient in the same activity as yours.
d. Plan and teach a class to younger kids in your community on the basics of your activity.
Completion of the Healthy Community responsibilities encourages youth to use their talents to improve their communities and ensures that other youth can benefit from Good for Kids programs.
